March 1 – The Indiana Department of Education today opened the Indiana Choice Scholarship application window for the 2018-19 school year. More than 35,000 Hoosier students used a Choice Scholarship to attend one of more than 300 private schools during the 2017-18 school year—an increase in participation of nearly 3.5 percent over 2016-17.
The continued growth of participation in the Choice Scholarship program is one indicator of the value Hoosier parents place on their right to choose a school that best meets their child’s needs,” said Kevin Gray, communications and outreach director for the Institute for Quality Education, “We advise families interested in pursuing private school options for the 2018-19 school year to start doing their research now.”
IQE’s MySchoolOptions website provides resources and information for families who are navigating their choices. The free online service includes an Opportunity Calculator—to help families quickly determine their eligibility for financial aid for paying private school tuition; a School Finder for discovering nearby schools of all types; and the #MySchoolChoiceStory blog, on which Hoosiers share their personal stories of school choice.
