Public Charter Schools
Public charter schools are free to attend and open to all students, regardless of where they live. Charter schools have more flexibility than traditional public schools; and some specialize on a specific area of study.
In exchange, charters have high accountability standards and may lose their ability to operate at any time if they don’t meet Indiana’s strict standards. There are more than 80 authorized charter schools operating throughout the state of Indiana; including several online virtual charter schools. Currently more than 44,000 Hoosier students attend public charter schools.
