Public School Transfer
Indiana’s most popular school choice is the public school transfer option, which allows students to attend a public school outside of their home school corporation. In fact, more than 50,000 Hoosier students used this option during the 2017-18 school year. There is no cost for choosing to transfer a student to another school, however in most cases the transferring students’ families are responsible for securing transportation to and from school.
Each Indiana public school corporation may choose whether or not it will accept out-of-district transfers. A list of the districts accepting transfer students for the upcoming year is published each summer on the Indiana Department of Education’s Public School Transfers page. Other guidelines and rules related to Public School Transfers can be found on that page.
